The rich history of music in Highlands, in particular, and Appalachia, in general, is written into the stories of individuals who once resided on this wonderful Plateau, even if only for a short time. The legacies left behind by Felix Eugene Alley, Henry Ossawa Tanner and Sylvia Sammons help define the deep influence of music on the people who reside here. The history of old-time and bluegrass music, however, belongs to a much wider audience and television and movies have helped engrain both genres in the musical consciousness of that audience. Old-time and bluegrass music have left their marks on the American landscape and will continue to do so for years to come.
